Luoding Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The name of Luoding Formation was given by the No 763 Geological Team of Guangdong in 1962. The type locality is the Baimakeng area of Luoding. Type section is the Baimakeng section of Luoding, Guangdong (111º31', 22º49').
Lithology and Thickness
The Luoding Formation is a group of red clastic rocks. Lower part consists of brownish red feldspar quartz sandstone intercalated with conglomerate, silty mudstone. Upper part is feldspar quartz sandstone, calcareous siltstone and sandstone. It is 871 to 2916 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Luoding Formation is overlying the Paleozoic strata unconformably.
Upper contact
The Luoding Formation underlies the Sanya Fm (Sanyajiang Fm) unconformably.
Regional extent
It is distributed in the Luoding, Qingshui and Tangcun areas.

The Formation yields bivalves Trigonioides kodairai and conchostracans, ostracod fossils.
